Empyrean Records was originally formed as an imprint of the WishingTree Records Group in the 90’s by music enthusiasts David Silva and Kyle Thompson (other people have joined since). Based in Rhode Island, with a satellite office now in Philadelphia, PA, the label’s focus is to share the music they love with people who love music. The ever-expanding Wishing Tree Records Group now houses three independent record labels, a marketing and publicity firm specializing in arts and entertainment (and culturally relevant products), and has major international retail distribution. The label group has collectively released albums from Wheat, Eric Matthews, Pinetop Seven, Silver Sunshine, The Moles, The Aluminum Group, Super Furry Animals, among many others. The label has also released a charity compilation series featuring exclusive tracks from Elliott Smith, Wheat, Death Cab for Cutie, Wilco, Bright Eyes, Spoon, and Elf Power, among many others.
Our efforts have gained recognition for projects with major editorial features and coverage in publications such as The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Chicago Tribune, LA Times, Village Voice, The Providence Journal, SPIN, Time Out New York, Entertainment Weekly, Chicago Sun Times, The Oregonian, Pitchfork Media, NPR, The Washington Post, MOJO, Harp, Paste, Uncut, Performing Songwriter, among many others. The label has been interviewed for our opinions and contributions by publications such as The Boston Globe, The Boston Phoenix, Chicago Tribune, and San Francisco Weekly. Profiles of our group have recently been featured in Chicago Tribune Magazine, Billboard Magazine, and cover stories in The Boston Globe and our local newspaper, Warren Times Gazette. Some of our past projects have received awards, top tens, and records of the year from The Boston Globe, The Providence Phoenix, SPIN, Billboard, Magnet, MOJO, Village Voice, International Songwriters Competition, The Shortlist Awards, and most recently a Grammy Award. Music from our artists and releases have also been licensed and used in many major television shows, commercials, and major films. Our artists have performed all over the world from small to large venues, as well as radio performances and late night television show such as Conan O’Brien and Carson Daly.
